Money Matters The Egyptian currency is the Egyptian pound (LE). You may easily exchange USD, Euro and GBP at reception or the Dahab bank, which is 200m from Resort and open daily between 0900-1400 and 1700-2200 hrs. Travellers cheques can also be exchanged at the local Weston Union branch. Not all businesses accept credit cards- but the number is growing.
ATMs exist all over Egypt, and there are 10 in Dahab. With your “pin” number you can withdraw local currency using Mastercard or Visa Credit Cards, and Maestro or Cirrus Debit Cards.
If you intend to use your credit or debit card in Egypt it is advisable to telephone your bank or creditc card company before departure. New financial security guidelines can mean that sometimes the company might block your card if used overseas without them knowing. This can lead to an expensive international call getting them to unblock it!
It is advisable to bring card phone numbers and photocopies of passports on all overseas trips.
Insurance It is strongly recommeded that you take out adequate travel insurance for the duration of your trip. If you intend horse riding or diving these activities should also be covered.
Divers can apply for diving insurance at www.padi.com or www.daneurope.org
